One of many talented producers that knows how to deal with soundscapes, beats and melodies, but has a sound like no other, is Canadian top producer Arnej. Look beyond the numerous signs of his musical schizophrenia and you’ll be surprised how well this music addict knows how to turn his tricks and hits into yet another diverse beat-beauty.
Sameer and Jacquelina interviewed Arnej for TrancePodium.
Your homebase is in Toronto from my understanding, what is your favourite club and/or lounge to kick it at when you just want to let down you hair?
You are right, Toronto is my town of residence at the moment. I'd say that my favorite place to visit when I'm in the mood for some good music would be the infamous Guvernment.

What is your favourite song right now that you haven't personally produced yourself? Would you ever consider taking that track and adding a touch of Arnej to it?
I am currently liking Robert Nickson - Circles. Just hits all the right chords for me! As for giving it my own personal touch, most likely not. Rob did an excellent job with it.
Being a producer do you have any other sort of formal musical training, whether it be being classically trained on an instrument/instruments, do you by any chance sing?
I have no formal musical training of any sorts, and despite the complex harmonies I can come up with, I am as deaf as a bat is blind when it comes to picking up pitch! You play me a note and I will not be able to tell you what key it's in :) And yes I do sing, in the shower. Actually one might call it incoherent mumbling rather than singing :)
You've worked with Armada, Blackhole, and Intuition. How did you get into contact with these labels and what songs allured the executives of these labels to take you on board with them?
I've built up quite a few contacts over the years so getting in touch with the right people was not too difficult. Once you know one person in the industry, it seems like you are only 1 or 2 contacts away from knowing everybody! As for part two of the question, there's just too many tracks to list, so why don't you hop on the good ol' internet, hit up discogs.com and check out my full discography.
Moving to the crux of the interview now. As per agreement from our previous interview, I am obliged to ask the following, how much do you deadlift?
Ooh, workout question. I think the better question is how much can you deadlift ... now :) And the answer to that is probably not a whole lot! But a few months ago when I was still training fully, I peaked at 495lbs for one lift.
Do you feel you bring a signature sound or emotion when producing a tune?
I think I have my own style that is for certain. The type of melodies I choose do exhibit a mood in me, as for whether they do anyone else, well who knows! I hope so!
Aside from myself asking you the annoying gyming questions, is there a particular question that you are continuously being asked, would you mind answering it for us?
The most asked question is essentially what I use to produce. I use and always have used FL Studio (back when it was just called Fruityloops). I don't use any hardware, strictly only software and plugins. These days you can produce with pretty much any of the various sequencer hosts, so it comes down to your creative output and how well you can master the machine.
Well we`ll end off this Interview with one of the most cliche` "ender" questions, Mr Arnej, what could you fans expect from you this year?
You can expect a lot of (hopefully) good music, my upcoming artist album and of course seeing me at a club near you! In the meantime, you can find me on any of the various social networking sites as I try to update my profiles with relevant info.
