The saga for the phone number continues. Keep reading to find out wether our resident interviewer Sameer will finally accomplish his goal.
Miss Marcie, thank you for your time, always great chatting to you. How are you doing & what`s new in the life of Marcie Joy?
Hey Sameer! Thanks for taking time to chat. I think I'm finally recovered from Winter Music Conference. I'm heading into a week of intensive studio work, and I'm excited to focus solely on writing and recording for a bit.
You have had releases on Major Labels with support from Tiesto, Paul van Dyk , Above and Beyond and many more. Which would be the project you are most proud of?
Right now, I'm proud of "Danilo Ercole feat. Marcie - Broken Wings". It just came out on Armada last week. The lyrics mean a great deal to me. I think Danilo did an amazing job bringing a delicate and emotional lyric to the dance floor while preserving the story I wanted to tell. His music tugs at my heartstrings. I'm also excited about "Tydi & Dennis Sheperd feat. Marcie - Somehow" which has some pre-release buzz around it since TyDi debuted it at Trance Energy.
It really depends on my mood. The DJ support is awesome, but some of my personal favorites are tunes that stayed under the radar. I hope that when a big DJ supports one of my tunes, it will drive listeners over to my site to hear some of my other work. I've worked with a lot of talented people in a variety of styles. There might be a tune that speaks to a listener that doesn't suit a particular DJ's style. We listen to music in many places besides clubs, so some remixes and tracks that haven't had club DJ support might really suit a Sunday afternoon, or the drive to work.
Favourite venue to party at?
I don't have a favorite venue, but after Miami, I'm not sure if prefer outdoor pool parties or dark underground clubs. I guess it depends on the weather. Up here in Boston, the outdoor pool party isn't really an option.
A sidenote to the above, which would be the best party you have been to?
Recently, it would be The Armada Opening Night party at Winter Music Conference. I'm a performer by nature, so I always feel better if I get to sing live for a crowd at a party. Once I've directed my energy outward that way, I feel more relaxed hanging in a crowd. In Miami, I had my performance, so I got that out of my system, and then I was really hyped up all night. It was one massive DJ after another on the decks, (i.e. Markus Schulz, Glenn Morrison, Noel Sanger), and all sorts of international names hanging out. Everyone was in a party mood, and the night was full of possibility.
Marcie presents Behind the lyric airs on DI.fm aswell as many other respectable Internet & FM stations, would you mind giving us a little insight to your show?
Behind The Lyric features Singer/Songwriters telling the stories behind their tracks. I've interviewed Jes Brieden, Nadia Ali, Jaren, Zara Taylor, Roger Shah, Matt Darey, Tara McDonald, and many more. It's a show that focuses on the craft of songwriting, and the personal elements that go into an artists work. The show also explores the impact of songs on listeners. I wanted to get away from the 'hype' and image oriented elements of the scene. My show is meant to focus on the heart and soul of the artist and the listener.
Lets talk 2008 now, what would some of your personal favourite tunes be?
I loved quite a few releases in 2008. Standouts include "These Shoulders", pretty much everything with Jaren singing, "Perfect World", and J. Scott G.'s remix of "Something Good".
Perhaps maybe some info on your blog and its releases?
Well, I just set up a blog. http://behindthelyric.blogspot.com/
I'm trying to figure out the best way to let fans know what is going on. Myspace is great because people know they can hear tunes there. Facebook updates are good because they can reach everyone who has chosen to receive my updates, but they are pretty boring to look at. I guess a blog works a bit like a regular website, but it's focused mainly on news updates, and not my overall body of work. I'm trying to keep people updated without annoying them, or twittering my life away.
Is there perhaps any tune that you would hear that would bring an endless smile to your face?
It often depends where in a set a tune falls. Not too long ago, my friends and I were dancing and our endorphins were flowing, and the DJ dropped 'Going Wrong', and we were singing along at the top of our lungs. I'm not sure we would have done that if it was the first song in the set. I mean, I always like the tune, but the momentum of the set really made that song the climax of the night.
Is there any DJ or Producer that you have met that made you go .."Wow .. I`m actually meeting him/her!!"
I had dinner with Roger Shah recently. We've known each other for years, and worked together in the past, but we had never met in person. To be able to sit one on one and talk with him was a real honor. He's as kind and intelligent as I thought he was.
How was your trip to the WMC?
I discovered that being extremely tired feels a lot like being drunk, and thus I saved money on alcohol. There was so much to do all the time, and sleep was not a high priority. By the time I left to go home, I was limping, I had lost my voice, and I had under eye circles, hehe.
Seriously though, it was a great experience. I interviewed some of my favorite artists for upcoming episodes of 'Behind The Lyric'. I had many performances, and I met a bunch of people who I had only known through the internet. I was joking that WMC was like walking around in myspace. Suddenly all the internet people were real people. It was heavenly to have so many friends in the same physical location, and to have the option to hear amazing DJ's 24/7. I spent a few days going to trance events, and then I switched gears and headed to electro house parties, and then I switched back.
This being the final question, the readers already know what I'm going to ask... Miss Marcie, may I please have your phone number?
You're so polite, even though I know I'm not your first, hehe. I'll encode it into my next release, Okay? So listen carefully!
