Review

After the big success with the previous 2, Steve Helstrip is back with another installment of the "Night Music" series. Being a fan of the series, I was expecting a lot from this release, and I'm not disappointed at all.

One thing I noticed while listening to the compilation was the flawless mixing by Steve. Along with the superb track selection, he's done a brilliant job on this one.

The first disc, as usual, starts with a Thrillseekers production: The Last Time. With Kathleen Fisher's vocals, this tune makes a great intro track. The Gareth Emery remix of Orkidea's Metaverse follows. This is one of the tunes that will mark 2008, and one of my personal favorites this year. Max Graham - Carbine follows the strong start of the mix.

The next one is Martin Roth's remix of Miracle Cure. Martin Roth always delivers great remixes, and this one proves it. A great track, followed by The Jay Lumen Vibe - Siren. Short and sweet. Next up is Mike Saint-Jules' remix of Take Me Back by Breakfast. Nice, dirty feel and a good melody, it screams Flashover.

A Marco V Remix of "What You Need" follows. This tune stuck on the dance floors for quite a while, which only proves its quality. The mix continues with a collaboration between Ronski Speed and Aruna: All the way. With her work on last year's "Waiting Here For You" and this track, Aruna established herself as one of the best female trance vocalists of today. Another vocal track follows: Fallen Tides. Not as euphoric as Mark Pledger & Matt Hardwick's previous collaboration, "Connected", but a great track nonetheless. Good vocals too.

Next track is Solarstone - 4Ever. Being a fan of the old Solarstone sound, this track reminds me so much of Seven Cities. A beauty, followed by a collaboration between Ferry Corsten and Raz Nitzan: Embrace. Very energetic, banging tune.

And we get to my personal favorite on the release. Teya feat. Tiff Lacey - Only You is a track that I can't get enough of at the moment. The melody is so beautiful, and Simon Bostock's remix is a perfect mid-set uplifting tune. Simply amazing.
Steve continues to lead the euphoric journey with another stomper, Simon Patterson - Smack, followed by a collaboration between John O'Callaghan & John Askew: Buenos Aires. When it comes to these two guys, we can't expect anything less than a hit. The first disc finishes with Red Moon Slide by Nitrous Oxide, a great way to end a perfect mix.

The second disc, titled "Rewind", contains some of the biggest tracks from the last 12 months. Starting with Lange's big hit Songless, followed by Deadmau5' Faxing Berlin, it looks very promising. It continues with the vocals of Julie Thompson on "Somewhere I Belong". Pretty good track, the piano goes very smooth with the vocals. Another Martin Roth remix follows, and after that the huge First State hit "Falling". A tune that was played many times in the past year, and for a good reason. Great melody and great vocals.

The next track, John O'Callaghan feat. Audrey Gallagher - Big Sky, is a track that marked last year. JOC deserves every credit he receives, brilliant producer. It's followed by a Mind One remix of Steve's own "By Your Side", the track Night Music 1 opened with, and then by the fourth vocal track in a row: "Keenen & Anderson feat. Tiff Lacey - Runaway (Mat Zo Vocal Remix). Mat Zo is a very talented young producer, whose prime is yet to come. Not a big fan of the vocals in this one, but the production is pretty decent.

Georgia vs The Stimulator - We Rise (Georgia Dub) is the tune that follows. This is  Georgia's first release, a track that has a nice anthemic feel and a strong breakdown. Still prefer "Ode To '99" though. The mix continues with one of Above and Beyond's resprays: Adam Nickey - Never Gone. Being a sucker for chopped vocals, this is one of my favorite tracks on the compilation.

"The Horizon", the second Breakfast track on this release was a huge hit in 2007. A great lead and a beautiful breakdown, this is the perfect epic trancer. It's followed by Evbointh's One Wish. Every time I hear this track I admire Evbointh. It's amazing that a 16 year old boy could produce such a beauty.

Next up is Agnelli & Nelson's remix of Markus Schulz feat. Dauby - Perfect. Agnelli & Nelson are making a great come-back with some awesome productions and remixes. Oliver Smith's Nimbus is next. A beautiful atmospheric melodic uplifter, followed Simon Patterson's Bulldozer. Another banging track by Simon, I think it would better fit somewhere in the middle of the mix, but that's just me.

Overall, I like this release more than Night Music 2. With the excellent tracklist, it's definitely a compilation worth having. Looking forward to the next one.
