Trance Music Scene in Ibiza
Ibiza, Spain is a great place located at the Mediterranean region. This place is the ultimate place for fun and relaxation with its spectacular beaches and fantastic night life. But aside from its spectacular sights, tourists from all over the world also flock to Ibiza's clubs and beach parties every night to dance to the the groove of trance music.
The trance music in Ibiza could be said to be inspired by the natural features of the place. Artists in Ibiza tried to make music that would remind the listeners of the ocean. As such, the local trance music, Ibiza trance or Chill trance, has soulful beats which blend into the surroundings of the beach. Mainly characterized by its unique melody fused with audio snippets of the sea and ocean waves, Chill trance is also called Balearic house, since Ibiza is part of the Balearic Islands of the Mediterranean. Today, Ibiza or Chill trance is not only popular in Spain but has been a huge hit in the United States and other European countries as well. Chill-out tracks often top the international dance charts and are regular favorites in late night radio programs.
The development of trance music in Ibiza can be traced to the summer of 1991. At this time, people began appreciating and sharing the music not only in clubs but in beach parties as well. Primarily, the genre was introduced to the dance scene of Ibiza to enable tourists to chill out in style while drinking their cocktails at the beach. However, trance music really only took off and gained popularity in 1995 when European tourists who came from Goa, India held Goa and psychedelic trance outdoor parties in Ibiza.
In the years following its emergence and take off, trance-themed parties ruled the dance scene in the area. In fact, trance parties became so known that people sometimes held unplanned parties which were jam-packed with partygoers. The parties usually were held more than once a week in any location imaginable in Ibiza. While high-end trance parties were hosted in clubs and fine beaches in the area, the more modest parties were happening in farmhouses, mountain tops, caves, woodlands, and even barns.
However, the trance music scene briefly ended back in 2000 when the local authorities in Ibiza decided to crack down on illegitimate outdoor parties. The steep fines imposed on the event organizers were enough to stop all the trance parties in the area. People were then forced to hold illegal parties in hidden places to avoid getting arrested by law enforcement units. It was not too long, though, before trance-themed parties made a spectacular comeback in Ibiza.
By 2004, the trance music scene was up to its feet again. Thanks to the efforts of the artist groups and record labels that locally produce trance music, trance parties are making the waves up to this day in Ibiza, making the place the party capital of the world.
