You're probably tired of me by now.  Tongue But I've got a new song in the works that I'm looking forward to finishing. Right now all I have is a build-up and the arpeggio and I'm looking for ways to tie the melodies together so that the beginning and the ending  hurt the song.

This song takes on a much different style than my other two songs, having much more emphasis on synths and, I think, has a more trancey feel. I think this song will be better than Corona, though it's taking me less time to get it together. You'll notice that the song cuts off abruptly. Like I said, I just have the arpeggio and the build-up.

Cool, thanks! Smile

I've been working in piecemeals on this one. I may start it off with a progressive tone and then shift toward a more uplifting style. I have a "proposed" opening to the song featuring what I'm talking about. It's much more energetic. This doesn't include the break down (which I am also in the process of doing some big revamping.) It's pretty plain right now, of course, and I know there are some holes in the kicks, but I'm going to keep adding more effects and dramatic turns as they come to me. See what you think. Smile

The beat has been slightly edited.

Another update. The opening is longer and takes on a more progressive twist. I've almost got the full melody in there so the song easily transitions from progressive to uplifting.

Right listening now at last! Sorry about the delay!

At the start it's nice, though when you introduce the early hats they sound wierd for some reason. Maybe try changing the pattern on that bit.

The bass is nice, but it sounds a bit slow, try adding some more loops or increasing the BPM. I love the second stage of the bass change where the notes change, it's a nice melody there instead of just the change between two notes. Try bringing the pads in earlier and more gradual. Also use of FX would help in going to the break.

It's a nice melody you have here. The lead/gate is nice try adding an underlying pad when it's building up as it loses a bit of ambience.

But yeah nice track you have here man, I think you could do with better EQ'ing/compression but as I can say from experience it takes a long time to understand it and even to this day i'm still learning parts of it.

Thanks for the advice! I'll consider everything you said for the next update. I understand about the ambient part. I've tried to sort of nail that down with a smooth transition. I have two small pads going on as the bass' melody is introduced, mostly just to give the song a little support, but it's not very obvious. The "sadder" pad I introduce around 1:54 is what drives much of the ambience before the lead of the song starts up, but it reaches its full volume in only 8 measures, so yeah I'll definitely make it more gradual (same with the transition going into the lead.)

I've never been totally satisfied with the beats to this song. I've tried turning down the treble some there, but I had not been getting much out of it. But I'll keep working at it. Do you sense that it's the treble or something else that makes the hats sound strange? Again, thanks for the tips!

It's nothing to do with the treble more so how you've made the pattern. What i'd suggest is making it in a 16 beat battern Kick on 1 - 5 - 9 - 13 and the Hats on 3 - 7 - 11 - 15 and Claps on 5 - 13. Hope that makes sense.

Alright, I've done a pretty good amount of editing recently. I haven't been able to really add much new actual since I've been bogged down with school work, but I've done several things to rework the song, including the main lead:

1. The beats are different now and more logical. It's pretty basic overall, not too complicated, but it will work for this song. I may add a little more as time progresses to kick it up a notch.
2. I've done some compressing and EQing (filtering, etc.) to the synths, so there will be more definition and better layering. The main bassline is a little more crispy.
3. I'm still trying to figure out what other loops I could add to the beginning. I added two more pads to add some support to the bassline.
4. Tempo was boosted from 134 BPM to 137 BPM

My main concern right now is getting a very strong lead going. I have the basic idea of what I want to achieve, but right now it sounds sort of weak to me. I'm trying to get the lead about as energetic and edgy as the first half the of song. I'm somewhat familiar with equalizers, but not very knowledgeable on compression at all, so my guess is that the lead still sounds a little muddy.

Again, because the song isn't complete, it cuts off abruptly.

Most up to date version (9/27/2008):

So how do you guys like it so far? Smile

Not trying to "bump" the thread. I'm just posting because I have a much better version for the latest update. The lead is bit stronger, but not so the song sounds too much like an anthem. The beat is also stronger sounding.. I did a ton of compressing to this one to help separate the layers.

So, if you comment on it, please use this version below:

I'll keep the link to the other one for now in case anyone wants to make comparisons. I'll be working on the second half of the song (which will be shorter than the first) over the next few days. The song's final version will probably end up being about 9-9.5 minutes long.

Me again. I've added another loop to the beat and the "clap" has so much more energy now. Again, I've done some EQ-ing and a bit of compressing. I reintroduced one of the lead's synths back into the breakdown. I want to change it a lot more, but I have had not much time to. The first half is pretty much set in stone, but I should note that the breakdown will likely change (right now, the "rough mix" is very conceptual.) Still working on the second half of the song. Yeah, this has got to be the slowest produced song you've ever heard, LOL. It's been a work in progress for over a month now. But oh well, it lets me focus on it and enjoy it all the way through.

Tempo now at 139 BPM, up from 137.

Any thoughts on all this? You guys have been pretty quiet lately. Wink

UPDATE for 10/9/2008!
