My friend is offering me all this equipment for $275...
*Vestax PDX 2000 turntable with high torque*
* It comes with all cords and wires along with Stanton SMX 401 professional DJ mixer, Odessey dual turntable coffin, and Numark CC1 dj cartridge

Can anyone tell me if this is a good deal, and what else I need to get started?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You'll definitely need some monitors! I suggest getting some M-Audio BX5a's. That's what I use and it has some of the of the tightest bass you'll ever get out of monitors their size!

The turn table is a good table, but it more in the direction of scratching / battle djs.  the straight tone arm resists skipping, but you loose some sound quality and punch in the low end.

the mixer is a pretty good mixer to boot.  nice kill switches, good eq range, and a send channel for effects.  the crossfader is penny & giles which are noted for their long life and sound quality.  the top of the line mixers use these like the xone series.

the carts are not bad, but not great either.  they are endorsed by carl cox, but i was not really impressed with them.  for all the money you would be saving on the gear, i would get a set of stantons or ortofons to replace them.

overall for 275 its quite the deal.  and it almost sounds too good to be true [as just one of those turntables was around 400 by itself]

make sure everything works correctly and the gear is in perfect condition.
