46  DJ/Artist Forums / DJ/Producer Talk / Producer Question: Are Drumloops Okay? on: April 29, 2008, 08:18:33 PM
... so I really want to learn and get the whole producing process moving along rather quickly. One of my biggest weaknesses is making proper hi-hat loops. I have Vengeance Clubsounds 1 and 2, and therefore I have a lot of high-quality drumloops at my disposal. However, as an individual who likes to do all his own work (I even program all my own synths most of the time), I'm afraid that using drumloops will bring down the quality of my productions and make me lazy. I want to be original... but those loops make my work so much better!

So what should I do? Use loops and work on learning how to make my own on the side, or force myself to make my own no matter what?

You use FL Studio, don't you? If you do, here's a file I made explaining another weapon in your pumping bassline arsenal, sidechaining:

Let me know if it helps!

Hey... I like your tune!

I really like the use of those filtered sound effects... they really make the track a good one. I like the melody, too... and the pads are pretty nice. I like the way they're phased.

The whole track has a nice, calm-yet-danceable feeling to it... this is particularly useful to me the moment, because I'm recovering from a very hectic night on the computer (not too long ago I had about six chats open and I was trying to work on a song... and I dropped a chat with a girl I'm trying to get to know... uweh). It's helping me settle down a little.

The name, of course, fits very well. XD

Just wondering... how long have you been producing?

Overall, it's a good track. If there were a download link, it would be in my music library.

Wow... thanks, guys! I've never been so enthusiastically received... anywhere.

@Randy: You... want to use... my tune... in a set? Never thought I'd be asked that. Please do! By all means, feel free to share the love however you see fit. XD Hook me up with a copy of the set if you decide to use it. Wink Seriously man, thanks!

@starburst, Hypnotic, Ben: Wow, thanks for the positive feedback. I'm glad you guys like my stuff!

I'll definitely see you all around. ^^_

Will I be able to download this after it plays, then? Because I'm in school when it's playing.

Favorite mixset?

Downloading... I'll let you know what I think when I listen to it. Lately I've been listening to a lot of mixsets - an old set by Manuel le Saux and a set by Giorgio Ponticelli from last November. We'll see how you match up, eh?

Masters & Nickson feat Justine Suissa - Out There

I have the Daniel Kandi remix of this track... it's freakin' amazing.

Now playing... Ferry Corsten mixed live @ Spundae and Circus, Los Angeles - http://www.di.fm/'s trance channel. ^^_

Hello! My name's John Pavlick, I'm seventeen, I live in Michigan, and I have been producing for a few years. I have always loved trance, and I am trying to learn more about it so that I can produce it better.

I found out about Trance Podium yesterday when the guy who runs Trace Podium's Facebook (presumably Hypnotic?) friend requested me. While looking at the profile, I saw a link to this site. I visited and looked around a bit, and I like the way this place looks. After reading the forums for a few minutes and deciding that you all were friendly enough, I decided to join. I don't participate on a lot of forums, and the music production forum I'm on now is more centered around producing in general than it is any one form of music; because of this, there are only a handful of us who produce trance regularly, and I've been needing a trance community to participate in... so here I am. XD

I use FL Studio 8 XXL, and I do everything on my laptop. If you want to hear how I sound, check out my Soundclick. I suggest you check out "Courage Born Of Despair" and "Candyflip;" they are my best two songs that I have finished.

I look forward to meeting some awesome people and learning a lot here. Grin
