Hello Nic Andrei. How is your producing going ?
To answer some of your questions...
There are several ways of managing the rights of your music.
1) You can sign an artist contract, meaning that you give the master rights to the record label ( you no longer own your track and cannot sell it to other parties).
The label will pay for making a master, and of course do all promotio/distribution for you and so on. They might also want to have in the deal, saying that they will get the master rights on your next 3 tracks for eksample. This can sound nice, but can also be a disadvantage, especially if the label has several artists -they might get passive and not work good enough to sell YOUR music. And it would be a waste of time for you, not being able to go to another and perhaps better label for you.
My advice: Read the contract carefully and think about what it all can mean for your situation, be critical!!
Do not sign up for a long time at one label, if you can: watch out for exclusive rights (some labels want to have the rights of your music world wide.. be aware!!) It might be better to have several partners that promote your music in diff. areas of the world.
2) You can also sign a Licencing deal with a record company. This way you will own the master your self, and the label only promotes and distributes your track for a certain time period stated in the agreement. This way you have to pay for the mastering -but you hold the rights to sell the music to whom you want. If you do this right this might be the most profitable for you and you are in control of your music your self.
3) You can also sign a deal only to promotion companies in the countries you want to sell your music, but this needs you to know much about the market and the music industry. Not all promotion firms are to be trusted either.
Hope you got some answers.. if you have further questions just ask!
