Hey guys, i'm a novice at production and I'd like to buy a good affordable synthesiser specifically for Trance. What would you recommend? My budget can only go as high as 200$ :)

It's not hardware BUT Propellerhead's Reason is a great way to use hardware-based synthesizers. They're mainly based from specific hardware and use the methods of additive, subtractive, graintable, fm, wavetable etc.

Sidenote: if you do get an actual analog synthesizer, Reason 7 has the capability to link your analog synth to Reason and play and record it like you would connected up to a keyboard.

To be honest, the cheapest synth out there that I can think of that is actually worth the money is the Waldorf Blofeld desktop module at $499. There really is not anything that produces quality sounds for the $200 mark. Most MIDI controllers alone cost around that much.

The Korg MicroKorg is decent as well and comes with a keyboard, but is still $399.

Your best bet is, if you already have a DAW, then get a piece of software like Sylenth1 which is right around the $200 mark and is a amazing piece of kit.

Thanks guys, the MicroKorg has wonderful specs and $400 is a good bargain. I should also mention that I use FL at the moment but i'm considering other DAWS as well later once i'm proficient with the technical aspects of sound production. Zakrush1, *Propellerheads, duly noted mate :)

look at the korg monotron series... they are easy to mod, which is a great intro into synthesis, they cost around 30-50 each. the korg monotron(megatron) mod adds extra features :D

you can also DL a vst i made about a year and a half ago. http://calgarc.com/saturn-v/

# Korg Volca Keys - 9 January 2014, at 13:03
Korg Volca Keys 3 voice polyphony , in Australia they cost $199 I don't know about at your end, you don't need to switch DAW if your fully productive with it atm, just learn the basics of sound engineering , every DAW has the same component elements etc arrange , mixer, midi sequencer , standard compressor , eq plugins etc.
