Which one is easier? Does computer mixing require skill? Which one is better?
What do you guys think?

Easier is the Computer mixing definetly, cause a kid can use it, just a few clicks and voala...

Better is the Deck Mixing, cause I beleive it requires more training/skill and it gives better song quality.

Computer mixing is much easier.  It auto syncs it for you, all you have to do is move the X-fader.  But you still have to know the basics of mixing to do a good sounding mix on a computer.  If you just press play on the other track at any time, even though beatmatched, the phases will be way off and it wil sound like junk. Not to mention you still need good EQing skills, and track selection.

Deck mixing all the way!!  I have Tracktor and it's tough for me to mix on the fly.  There is nothing like playing with knobs.  :P

Computer mixing is easier but the only downside is that if your computer freezes, your song will play a certain part over and over again until it unfreezes.  If this happens when u are recording a mix, the skips are recorded, too.
Now known as Randy Derricott. I may sometimes use the DJ Ranz alias for certain projects though.

i think computer mixing is way easier because of the auto beat match but i love the decks since theres a more personal feel

tho i don't have decks :-(

Pierre de lion  I agree with you there. Mixing on the computer is fun but there is so much more I can do on decks that I just cant on pc.

true that..though computer is a great place to start until you can afford or get some good decks

also true Pierre. I would say its better to start with pc as it teaches you the basics quickly and easy.

I would say start with decks.  Even though you can kinda use the computer to learn basics, when you move to decks its going to be learning all over again.  Besides, programs like traktor are not cheap and almost cost as much as a pair of entry level CD decks or a good set of turntables.

For me it is decks every time, I have used a computer plenty of times at home but when I have been lucky enough to have a play when I am out or like when I was in Ibiza it was just something else, you can not beat having the feeling of having it in your hands and I feel so much more in control!

Not only that but if I am out clubbing I hate seeing people mix using a laptop.

no disrespect intended to people using computers to DJ, but it's just not the same in my opinion.  There's more of an art to do it the "good old fashion" way.  It requires more learning, more patience, more practice, and maybe even a bit more talent.  I think in the end when you've achieved a level of spinning great quality sets with perfect beat matching and a solid flow, you get a huge level of satisfaction that I can't imagine being quite the same on a pc.

It has to be said though... I've seen it done on a pc too, and you still require skill to have a good flow.  You still need to know what you're doing.

I had a say in this once, but I have learned something about myself.

Earlier I used Technics 1210's and played vinyl only. When Cd's came out and the CD players started popping up at the clubs I was worried. I did not like that Vinyl was being squeezed out. Then one day I tried Cd's.. I did not like it right away, but it did not take long until I loved it. So then I used both Vinyl and Cd's. Nowadays I only use Cd's that I burn myself. Downloading .wav files from Beatport or whatever.

I am used to using decks. Then these computer mixing programs came out. Damn I hated that! lol ...then I got to try it, and it is actually fun to sit at home putting a mix together with these programs, I even learn to know my tracks better. I would still use decks at a club or party or whatever though, just because I love to use it! Knowing how all this works is cool I think, and it has made me work more + got me more motivated knowing/having all this stuff.

I guess I have learned that I should try things out for a period of time, before I hate it. I have always had respect for what others choose to use though. :D
