Sell your music and they will pay you 80% of whatever profits you make.  They also hold contests on regular occasion where you can win huge cash prizes, and things of equal magnitude.

Please check it out and let me know what you think.
Now known as Randy Derricott. I may sometimes use the DJ Ranz alias for certain projects though.

The problem with these kind of sites is that they do no promotion.
One of the biggest reasons producers sign their music to labels is because of the promotion system.
Labels send the tracks to the distributor and then the distributor sends them to a list of DJs (as PROMOS).
If you put your music for sale in such sites, even though you get 80% of the profit, it surely won't be close to half of what you would make if u signed via label, because no one else besides your friends would know that your music is for sale there, or even know that site...

If there's no promotion, you won't be known - you won't get booked/remixes requests/whatever.
Promotion is really important, yet not many people seem to realise that.

It's all very nice, but honestly, (in my opinion) you should not put your music for sale there, just keep producing until you've achieved something that's worth releasing (with a good label of course!).

I took your advice into account, Nery and I found this site called Tunecore, where you can sell your music on ITUNES and other digital music services.

With this one, YOU can keep ALL the profits.  You don't even have to give up your rights.

What do you think of this one, since it puts the songs on ITUNES, etc for you?

CDBaby has been doing it for a longer time (putting music on iTunes, Rhapsody, etc.), and they offer better flat for indie artists, and CDBaby is the biggest online independent music store right now. I think it definitely beats TuneCore. I have my CD on CDBaby and have seen sales and also offers from people and companies to write music for them, which for me is much more lucrative then selling albums.

Huh? You can never keep all the profits...  :sealed:

Not everyone has itunes, plus it's always better to have professional distributors sending your promos to all the big djs etc. It's just not the same.

And honestly, if we're being realistic here, only people that don't think their tracks are good enough to get signed try to put them on those sites. IMO, that's NOT a step forward. Why? Because you have no quality control there, so your improvement (and dj support) will not be as good...

Don't necessarily agree. While you're right that there is no quality control, it's also true that unless you are extremely lucky (or have connections) you are not going to be signed without some kind of initial buzz. Whether that be through live performances or generating sales independently, you have to go at it yourself first. Sure, just putting your music on those sites and doing nothing is a waste, but if you combine that with self promotion online and in local clubs, you can build up from there, and then for your next release, you can go to labels and say, "Well I got such and such sales with no backing, imagine what I can do with your help."

It's a stepping stone, for sure, and if you don't push yourself it is a waste, but like I said, unless you are just a lucky bastard, you're not gonna get signed to Perfecto and Anjunabeats as an unknown off the bat. Just sayin..

You can start by signing at really good "small" labels, like Redux, Perceptive, Nu-Depth, etc...
they don't care if you're known or not, as long as your music is great.
