Producers! What's Your Studio Rig? -

I'm interested in other people's equipment and what they use to create their music. For me it's...

1. My M-Audio keystation 61es midi controller. As a piano player the lack of weighted keys bothers me a bit, but besides that I love it. Enough keys to get thee sounds I want, but not to bulky like an 88 key would be.

2. Motu 828mk3 audio and midi interface. Pre amps are decent and as a MIDI interface it does the job. Basically never use the built in EQ and effects though. Would love to get a real pre-amp like and API someday...

3. Logic as my main Sequencer. Just awesome for MIDI sequencing. Wouldn't have it any other way.

4. Pro-Tools LE for audio (vocals, guitars). Just so easy to do audio editing and recording. Usually import into Logic for the mix though.

5. Rode K2, NT2A, Sennheisser 421, and SM57 mics. Basically covers female vocals (K2), male vocals (NT2A, 421), and guitars (SM57).

6. Mackie moniters. Good sound but a little lacking on the low end (needed for dance music).

7. Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones. Sounds awesome, plain and simple.

8. Native Instruments Komplete and Omnisphere softsynths. Don't need anything else really, it has so much stuff. I might try to get some module synths for classic sounds someday though.

That's basically it for me. What about everyone else?

24" iMac with 2.8 processor and 2GB RAM.
Logic Studio (just upgeaded and its amazing.. so much better then Logic pro 7.. and the box is hefty too!  :D)

Audio units include Spectrasonic's Omnisphere, Rob Papen's predator, GForce Minimonsta, Novation's BassStation and V-station

Roland PCR-30 Controller

Access Virus T1

Apogee Duet

M-Audio BX-5A monitors

Sony MDRV700s  = mainly my DJ cans, but are amazing for anything else.

Blue Snowball USB condenser mic.  Amazing mic and use it mainly for the podcast, but it does a wonderful job when switched to its omnidirectional setting when used with instruments.

I think thats about it.  Used to have way more Hardware synths, but have sold them off as software has just been becoming more and more powerful.

The iMac runs Logic great, and I am quite surprised how hard it is to get it to flinch.  Way better then my previous Power Mac G5.    Although I am still planning on purchasing a new MacPro later this year for dedicated Studio sessions  =D

Yea I have a quad-core MacPro and it is AMAZING. Never have had any latency on the lowest buffer size, and with some added RAM it is ridiculous. You will love it. After using it, it's impossible to go back to anything else.

I was thinking about getting BassStation and V-Station. How do you like them?

Yes I defo love the MacPro.  I have one of the new quad's at work and its a screamer.

THe bass station is great, and the V-station really has some nice , classic trance sound.  I have made some really nice patches with both.

I mainly bought them due to the fact that I used to have a Super Nova and it was great.

Damn R33 you have a Virus TI + Omnisphere? Lucky sod. :p

I have a pretty basic computer setup really, standard PC with 3GHz processor (Intel Pentium 4) with soon to be 4GB RAM. Windows XP - 80GB HD with a Seagate 500GB External HD.

Music software/hardware wise i'm using Ableton Live 6 and a lot of VST's and plug-ins; Zebra2, Nexus, Predator, ArtsAcousticReverb etc. I also use FL Studio 7 XXL edition for some features, mostly notably the brilliant piano roll for writing melodies. I've got a pair of KRK RP-6 G2 studio monitors with some Airspace ISO pads to isolate the sound. Keyboard wise i'm using a Roland ED PC-160A MIDI controller.

Ideally I need to either get or make some monitor stands to go on my desk, but the mags do alright atm. :p I'd also really love to get a proper synth, like the JP-8000, but I really can't afford one atm.

LOVE your monitor stands! And you midi controller is awesomely small too! as a piano player, can't understand how anyone can play one of them.

Haha thanks. :p

And about the MIDI controller - yeah it's probably a little small ideally, but you can change octaves easily and I find that it serves the job adequately enough. :)
