The opportunity
The Dutch superstar DJ - who was crowned the World’s No.1 DJ in the world by readers of DJ Magazine between 2002 and 2004 - is offering Beatport users the chance to remix the single ‘Knock You Out’ feat. Emily Haines, taken from his new album ‘Kaleidoscope’.

This is the first time that Tiësto (widely considered to be one of the most popular DJ the world has ever seen), has made parts to one of his original productions available to the public, and he has also pledged to release three of the best remixes on Ultra and PIAS Records, helping to kick start the careers of three aspiring producers.

The prizes
Up to three winning remixes will by released on Ultra and PIAS Records. The top winning remix will also receive:

Tiësto merchandise
Ultra records music package
$250 Beatport gift card

Saw this earlier and was gonna make a topic but felt like someone else eventually would. Seems like a cool idea, or maybe a scam for people to buy the track on Beatport. Anyways, I don't have a music program on my comp but hopefully some of you do.

It does seem like a bit of a scam. It's 5$ for the samples. Or, if you only want a few of them, it's 3$ a piece! WTF?

Sorry, I don't do Remix competitions where you actually have to PAY to remix it. Ridiculous.

It's not a matter of how much money it is. It's the principle behind it. How much can it honestly cost them to host a few seconds-long samples on their mainframe? It's absurd that anybody should have to pay a friggin' cent to have something is allegedly being 'offered' to us.

there are 10 samples that are each 5 minutes long.  however in my case im only interesting the acapella.

i dont mind dropping money on remix contest I actually consider.  I mean hell, you can probably think of plenty of times when uve wasted $5 or more on something else equally or if not more frivolous in your life...

I've spent 5$ on plenty of stupid things, but I don't approve when new costs start popping up for no reason. Imagine if hotmail or gmail one day decided they werent gonna do a free service anymore. As it stands, they make money on the free services, but they may just decide one day that its gonna be 5$ a month instead. That would be pretty upsetting.
