I was wondering what could a newbie have to have to be a DJ. What sort of equipment, programs and so on...

laptop/desktop
Virtual DJ software
and (if wanted)
turntables (if you like vinyl)
CDJs if you like digital
i use:

Virtual DJ software / Torq LE software
M-Audio Torq Xponent

If you want to just dabble in it. But if it really tickles your fancy and you decide to do some serious mixing, you should get some decks.

If you had, I guess you could get to try it there.. But you have a computer right? If so, try to search around for some software. Maybe you can get a trial version for starters, just to get a feel.
I use decks myself, so don't know so much about the different sofwares out there.

A DJ needs... feeling for music, love for the genre, a liking for Red Bull (to keep you going) and a whole lotta drive to even make it to the lowest rank of famous DJ's
