Just came back from watching it, and WOW!

I didn't think anything like this is possible, and I can't imagine the effort it takes to create something as complex as that, technically. And I was wondering what an army of the top animators, CG artists and sound designers worth half a billion $ can do.

This movie takes CG to a whole new level. As someone else said, I now understand how people felt in 1933 when they first saw King Kong.

As far as the actual story/plot line, I could barely care less. Poor and full of cliches, but even if there was no plot at all, I'd still watch it.

Exactly what I expected. Just a crap movie hyped up cz of the special effects and the money it has costed.
I hate movies that are focussed on special effects rather than a good story. Special effects should be just a tool to make things work, not the main part. Same reason I think Matrix was a crap movie. Bad story, bad acting.

I know, and I'm not usually a fan of movies like this, but this is nothing like your ordinary special effects movie. The level of detail involved is incredible. The scenes are so complex, I wasn't even focused on the story.

:o

I thought the first Matrix was brilliant! Story and everything. Then it got a bit OTT with the CGI, specially the third one.

As for Avatar, haven't seen it myself, but the trailers do look, well stunning to say the least.

The First Matrix WAS Brilliant, the rest of the trilogy quickly killed off any amazingness there was tho

Avatar DID Have a Good Story. Unfortunately it was stolen and unoriginal
The CGI looked great and it felt reasonably real
The 3D was far less engulfing than Beowulf and was utterly useless for most of the movie, it should have definitely had a few 3D scenes like Superman Returns, much to the dismay of my girlfriend and friends with glasses, the 3d shades bothered them quite a bit

*o ya, it also had the worst sex scene ever, lol

The jury on this one is still out for me. I haven't seen it yet, but may find a good 3 hours I can spend on it. It could be just another CGI showboat (which in itself is nothing too bad for me) or it could be something more. I hear it's full of cliches, but then again, lots of movies do and unwitting high school kids have a blast with that stuff...

I'm quite interested in seeing this movie.  It's been recommended to me that I see in the IMax!  I can't wait.

I liked the movie. Yeah it was kind of a cheesy story, and I thought it was a little disjointed to work around the effects, but I was quite impressed that it held my attention without the effects. For those who don't know, I'm totally blind, so I always am a little nervous when these types of movies come out with huge long action sequences and almost no dialogue. This one was very interactive.
