BBC Essential Mix -
6 June 2011, at 04:00
I'm not sure if you guys listen to this show, but if you do, what are your some of your favorite essential mixes? For those that aren't familiar with it, it's a British radio show that hosts a ton of different famous and upcoming DJs and producers to come and play (they also play live sets from gigs as well). Its been running since 1993. I really like listening to this radio show since they invite all sorts of artists to play from a wide range of genres, such as trance, house, progressive house, experimental, drum and bass, etc.

For me, my favorite trance essential mixes are Paul Oakenfold's from Rojam, Shanghai 1999 and Above and Beyond's from 2004. For progressive house and house, I really like Deep Dish from Space Ibiza in 2005 and John Digweed''s from Manchester Warehouse in 2007.

I'm not listening to this show, but it's a show like Dance Department on Radio 538, that's been running since 1992. I do have a few Essential Mixes tho and my favorite is Tiësto's mix there from 09-09-2001.

Here's the topic about that one, I will re-upload the downloadlink soon:

Definitely Paul Oakenfold, Armin's EM back in 2003/2004 can't exactly remember when it was I think it was and Above & Beyond back in 2004.

2010 - John 00 Fleming If they are any Commercial House artist GM I just skip it.

IMO Oakenfold @ Space in Ibiza 1999 is the most iconic Essential Mix

I dislike Oakenfold, but I :<3: that Essential Mix

+1 for Oakenfold, but another mix:

Paul Oakenfold - The Goa Mix (18.12.1994)

An absolute classic set. You can download it from the link above.

Oh wow I've listened to all of the essential mixes you guys have listed besides John 00 Fleming's (which I will now have to check out). :P I have to agree that those are all really great mixes!

I'm glad to see a lot of you guys like the Oakenfold essential mixes. :) I really liked his 1999 World Tour sets and his 1994 goa mix too. Thanks for the mixes Amay, I'm gonna take a listen to some of the earliest sets, it'd be cool to see how his style of music has changed over the years.

My favorites are all the essential mixes from trance artists: Above & Beyond (2004), Armin van Buuren (2003), Markus Schulz (2008), Simon Patterson (2008 I think), Ferry Corsten (2010), and others I can't remember at the moment. Nothing can beat John 00 Flemming's mix from last year though, the best one I heard.

And yeah, glad that Oakenfold's World Tour from 1999 was mentioned. A must listen to any trance fan.

I just listened to John 00 Fleming, wow what a great essential mix! I really recommend it. It's one of those trance sets that just draws you in and seems to hypnotize you.
