Dubspot & Mean Red Productions present a benefit for The Humane Society of the United States with a special performance by Free the Robots and featuring Dubspot’s trio of LA instructors Thavius Beck, Laura Escudé and Steve Nalepa at Hollywood’s King King on Friday, July 23rd, 2010.
Dubspot, New York’s center for dynamic music education and DJ education brings a trio of its Los Angeles instructors, as well as a few special performances to the City of Angels for a very special cause. In order to assist the animals affected by the gulf oil spill and other disasters, the school will hold a FREE benefit for The Humane Society of the United States, providing a fun and educational evening for a good cause. Headlining the event will be the genre defying artist Free the Robots. Putting together heavy doses of traditional jazz, psych, electronic and hip-hop, with progressive melodies and devastating drums make this artist a worldwide favorite. His techniques create harmony between genres with the blending of obscure samples with analog and digital compositions.
Playing in support of Free the Robots will be a trio of Los Angeles based Dubspot instructors including Thavius Beck. Thavius is an exceptional programmer, engineer, multi-instrumentalist and certified Ableton Live instructor, his many talents allow him to take music from idea to completion with an uncompromising vision and ear. Laura Escudé is a critically-acclaimed violinist, composer, sound designer, music technologist and educator. She specializes in Ableton Live and became one of the world’s first Ableton Certified Trainers. She has worked with Cirque du Soleil, toured Europe with acclaimed world music band Niyaz, was a tour consultant for Kanye West and recorded violin on EastWest’s Silk Sound Library. Steve Nalepa is an LA-based electronic musician revered in avant-garde circles for his studio alchemy and genre bending: he’s produced tracks with such legends as Bill Laswell and Pharoah Sanders, performed with the LA Philharmonic at Walt Disney Concert Hall, and shared the stage with some of the most revered electronic musicians and video artists in the world. The event will also feature a special Maschine performance from Detroit native Jeremy Ellis and DJ set from world music impresario, GlobeSonic DJ Fabian Alsultany.
