Hey guys.

Today I voted in my first presidential election!  I just want to tell everyone to let your opinions be heard!  If you have the ability to vote, TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY!

I believe we have about a week before election day.  So don't wait!

Now known as Randy Derricott. I may sometimes use the DJ Ranz alias for certain projects though.

Congratulations Randy!

2006 was my first election and I'll be sure to vote again on November 4th. All Americans who are registered to vote should absolutely vote this year. This is one of the most pivotal elections of your lifetime.

I'm not much familiar with the candidates and their views, so I couldn't tell.

Our government is in good relationships with the Republican Party, so I guess I'd go with McCain.

AFC-I 100 percent agree with you. Bush totally screwed our economy over. If you want this to improve, don't vote McCain. He's a Bush replica, and if you want another 8 years of our money being flushed down the toilet and innocent people getting killed, then vote McCain. I got the pleasure of seeing Obama speak in my city in early February, and I have to say it would be an honor to have him as our President. He is unlike any other we have previously had, and my intuition and my scrutiny of him tells me that he is a very respectable and intelligent man.

Are so many americans really THAT stupid? Ok, Bush was voted the first time with a minority of votes and some fraud. Undemocratic system, but ok, they're forgiven. But the 2nd time, after all the mistakes he already made, and the innocent killings, he was voted a 2nd term with this time a majority of votes. Unbelievable! And now again it's going to be a close call with his replica! Are they so stupid they don't even learn from their mistakes?
Clinton almost had to quit because of having sex with another woman than his wife! Had nothing to do with his capacity of being a president. Bush has made mistake after mistake, but I heard nothing about that questions were asked if maybe it would be better to step down. And they can keep on going.......

Being a good christian often seems more important than having the capacity of being a good president.

Obama actually looks to be pulling way ahead of McCain at this point though. This wasn't so much the case a month ago, but he still had a small lead. Now he is projected to gain about 350 electoral votes, which would more than double the maximum McCain would possibly receive. Also telling is that he is closing the gap or leading in many places that were once reliably Republican. Hello, Georgia? Leading in Indiana, North Carolina, and Virginia? It's pretty astonishing.

Even though we don't have to agree with whomever is in office (and I have plenty of disagreement and scorn to go around), the truth is, Americans live in political cycles all the time. The Great Depression ushered in a nearly five decade long run for more liberal politicians. The 1980s brought Reagan, the two Bushes, and the conservative politics of Congress. And arguably Clinton was too middle of the raod to have broken the conservative frame. Now, the mood is so remarkably negative for Republicans, more so than the weak-by-comparison turnover of Congress in 2006. Now the pendulum has swung the other way and I think the wild, wild west way of doing economics has run its course. It stuns me when I hear conservative friends say that they want more regulations for the financial markets.

Unfortunately, many people here don't like to change presidents during a war, regardless of a war's pointlessness and legality. It's part of the reason why FDR was re-elected for a second and third term, along with a short-lived fourth term. (there were more reasons, but I'm just using this one for now)

As for who I want to win the election, I hope it's Obama. We actually had to look at the candidates' plans on several issues for my Problems of Democracy class, and I agreed with a lot of his stuff there.

Studying A2 politics I have to take a great deal of interest in the USA elections... because we are studying American politics. I personally think Obama should be President. He seems a refreshing and needed change in the Presidency. McCain defo seems to come from the same bag as Bush and I don't think it would be good for the US and the World in general if the Republicans maintained the Presidency.
