What kind of books do u like? I've been a sucker for fantasy since my freshman year, i started with Eragon. Paolini was a great writer. Then i went on to other young adult fantasies.. unfortunetly a lot of fantasy gets kinda boring cause its all the same.. dragons, kights, wizards.. and then *dun Dun DUN* i got into anime.. thats another story lol but yea if anyones into reading, id love to know what books u like, I recently fell in love with the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyers and James Patterson's Maximum Ride series. He's a great writer, and ive been trying to read all of his other series but they can be a bit to much for me. anyway lets hear it ^_^ fantasy, mystery, sci-fi?

Do programming books count? Because I'm reading one now.

I don't have much time for books. Last time I've read one was this summer, and that's the only book I've read in a year. Used to read more in high school.

I'm more a movie guy.

Yes, I do. In fact, that's what my course is all about. And I've been doing it since 4th grade. So, I think I've been doing it for more than ten years now (I'm in 3rd year college). But I'm being forced to learn different languages these times because different projects require different languages.

But hopefully I should be back to honing myself to C++ very soon. I'm currently heavy on PHP, C# and Java because that's what they require in the courses. Not much C++. talk about discrimination. I intend to explore Macro-Assembly Language in the next month or so.

i read such girly books, LOL! the shopaholic series by sophie kinsella, that's the only books that got me so absorbed into the story. i'm into the whole twilight thing too, currently reading new moon. =)

other than that, i basically never read books.

Nice skills you got there. You can code pretty much everything in those languages.

I learn C++ at uni now, and Ruby (the Rails framework) at home.

I taught myself Pascal and Delphi, and I know some PHP, but just enough to be able to hack some scripts, write a simple component for a website or fix a problem. My main focus has been on Ruby lately. Loved that language since I first saw it.

ASM is great to know when it comes to optimizing your code. Read few tutorials out of curiosity about 4 years ago, but I couldn't find my way with all those abstract commands and registers. Will get back to it eventually.

Haha. Maybe eventually we'll be able to talk about ASM. I've also heard of Ruby on Rails. There was a talk about it at my uni a few months ago, but I wasn't able to go because of my schedule.

I'm guessing that you're also using Algorithms in C++ by R. Sedgewick? My professor (Dr. Manalastas, if anyone knows him here) recommended it to us in class, since the textbook we were using (which was adapted for Java) was not "his favorite." The illustrations on the Sedgewick books seems pretty nice, though. I have it, but I haven't started it. *blush*

My professor recommended "The C++ Programming Language" by Bjarne Stroustrup, for learning the language, and "Thinking in C++" by Bruce Eckel for programming techniques. Those are what I currently use.

If you'd like to look into Rails, Sitepoint were giving away a free book by Patrick Lenz, which gives a nice overview of the Ruby language and the Rails framework. I found it pretty useful. Another one I'd recommend is "Agile Web Development with Rails" by Dave Thomas and David Heinemeier Hansson.

Rails is great when it comes to web development. It's based on the MVC architecture and everything looks so organized and easy once you get used to it.
