Windows 7: To upgrade or not to upgrade? -
26 October 2009, at 20:44
Hey guys!

Windows 7 just recently came out.  I am still debating on whether I should upgrade from Vista to it or not.

Any of you have it yet?

What are your thoughts?

If you're on Vista, hell yeah. It can't be any worse than that.

If you're on XP, I'd suggest to wait for a while, to see what the first reactions are. XP has been treating me great, and I never upgraded (downgraded?) to Vista. I'm waiting to see whether 7 lives up to the hype, but I've already heard good things about it, so I'll probably upgrade soon.

Me too lol. And the only reason I'm not using Ubuntu Linux right now is just because it does not support any poker platforms so I'm stick to this buggy unstable windows garbage ;D

haha, yeah. I have dual boot with XP/Ubuntu. I still can't get rid of Windows because of Photoshop. GIMP is just not that good. Oh yeah, and the games. Can't live without Warcraft, and Ubuntu doesn't support it. I do all of my programming on Ubuntu though.

I heard that with release of Windows 7, Microsoft will not be supporting XP anymore. Does anyone know if that is true?

XP support was supposed to be gone but its been extended at least twice now due to demand, however, I think they are now finally phasing it out, but theres an upside, windows 7 includes an entire virtualized version of xp already installed, so you can load up xp virtually, inside 7, and run any program natively that doesnt now work on 7 in compatability mode, very nice

Also if you have vista and your pc can handle it you should definitely upgrade, unless you love DreamScene [video wallpaper] its gone and dead

If you have xp you can not upgrade to windows 7, you have to format and clean install it

I avoided vista like the plague, i hated it, but i have been loving 7 since the beta, and now running pro 64 bit

32 bit might be slightly less stellar

xp is still a great solid os and will last for quite some time

Talking about Hardware and Windows7. I have it running on a Athlon 1300 machine and it runs quite smoothly. Have not dumped a bit of processing on it. But I must say MS might just save face with windows 7 as Vista was a bang up from the start.

Installed it on the lap-top a week ago. Runs smoothly, no problems so far. May put it on the PC soon as well.

What's so bad about Vista? I've used XP for many years and have it at work as well, but I like Vista on my new PC :D

Correct, almost all educational institutions in America skipped Vista all together. This is due to a big flop in hardware support from the launch which left most Vista adopters feeling very bitter. The OS runs very sluggish compared to 7, Vista was supposed to be what 7 is now, but they failed epically, admitted it and swiftly moved on to "fix it" it by releasing 7

Vista might finally run like 7.0 with sp2 but dont hold your breathe, at least it gets DX11
