Interview: Darren Porter talks 'Species'
Earlier this month Darren Porter released 'Species', a full throttle, super energetic, layered tune which charges along with acid lines and melodic riffs. TrancePodium's Michelle sat with him and talked about this amazing new track and more!

Congrats on the release of your new track, Species! What was your inspiration behind this track?

Thank you!!! Species was the next instalment of a series of releases that are part of my own personal journey I’m going through right now.

How did you decide on the name, "Species," for this particular song?

After “Transonic” I was an “Explorer” of myself. I found “Sing Of Life” and “Evolved” into a new “Species” of myself. It’s a self-discovery journey I’m being the best person I can.

Can you tell us a little about what went in to the making of this track?

Everything that’s in me in that moment. This track was different as it wasn’t made in one go, it developed and adapted over time as I was feeling different. I’m sure there are some first drafts in a set somewhere hahaha

Species has already made it to the top of the Beatport charts. Congratulations! What are your thoughts on that?

It’s always amazing to see your music reach a high position as this is visual that your followers are really getting what you are doing. But as we move into the streaming era the support on Spotify, YouTube, iTunes, Pandora, the list goes on its hard to identify a tracks impact on your fans so for me it’s amazing to see any support anywhere :)

You've recently moved on from Trancegression Recordings. What does that move mean to you and where do you see things going from here?

Trancegression has been a big part of my career for a long time. From events all over Europe to a record label that was growing. But as Covid19 and its consequences for the industry has forced a re-think and direction change. I wanted to thank everyone who has been part of TG over the years for their time, commitment and effort. Especially the guys who have been releasing some outstanding releases. We have new plans and exciting opportunities coming ahead.

Is there anyone that you hope to someday collaborate with that you haven't already had the opportunity to work with?

I would love to work with composers such as Hans Zimmer and Steve Jablonsky. As Im getting old and wrinkly, I am also thinking differently and “seeing" music differently and I feel there is something magical to be uncovered in a collaboration like this.

What can you tell us about what you have in store for the remainder of 2020?

This is hard to answer as plans we had for 2020 have been put on hold but we are excited with the new direction, new team, new ideas but Trance music, the scene we love, live for and dedicated out lives too is at the forefront of our aim.

Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with us today! Is there anything else you'd like to say to your fans out there?

I would like to take this opportunity to express a deep appreciation to my followers and friends. It’s been a difficult time for everyone but the support and foundation of my true followers and everyone reading this has been a reason I’m still here. Through the ups, downs, mistakes, good times and bad. Thank you.
