Trance Podium interviews Luminosity

Luminosity Events recently became a partner of Trance Podium, so Remco cought up with Diane for the interview with the Luminosity crew to find out what's behind organizing an event.

With massive events like Luminosity Beach Festival and Before the Energy, Luminosity has proven it is possible to gather the biggest fans and celebrate one love, the love for trance music and all it’s sub-genres.

How did you come up with the idea of joining Luminosity?

Well, very simply: back in 2009, Otto asked me to handle the BTE 2010 DJ contest as I was very often on-line but also I had visited Luminosity events parties and gave my feedback as much as I could! After that, I found myself helping more and more in a natural way and few months after, I was officially part of the Lumi gang!

How many and which people participates in the Luminosity team?

The Luminosity Staff is essentially made of Bo, Otto (they are both the founders of the Foundation) and myself! During parties we also have other people taking really important part, like Kasia, Tom and the drivers obviously haha! Since last year we also get a lot of help from Maaike.

What is it exactly what you do in the Luminosity team?

Besides discussing line ups and other random stuff, I'm in charge of most of the on-line communication / press stuff, I also have an active role during the event itself backstage ... when I'm not dancing my ass off everywhere here and then ;) !

You're from France, doesn't that make it more difficult?

Well, I won't lie, it would be easier if I were Dutch (or at least speaking Dutch fluently), mostly to deal with clubs or with people who don't speak English etc. But the thing is, most of our visitors are foreigners so it kinda legitimates me for the on-line part because it all has to be English and at the end of day, I've been to so many parties in the Netherlands that .. it doesn't make a big difference hehe.. I just love to help and enjoy trance / partying so much that, I couldn't stay there and do nothing!

What are the steps you have to take from the start till the end when you're organizing an event?

One could think it's quite easy but .. frankly, I was surprised by how many little things you have to think of. I'll try to make it short and skip lots of details, otherwise we could go on for pages and pages!

Before the party:
* build the party itself: date/location/line up-timetable/lights .. those are tough choices because it will mostly make the party a success or not .. in combination with under. You also have to schedule everything for the DJ: music equipment, hotels, drivers etc.
* the communication plan: our website but also a bit everywhere on Internet, you always have to be creative and follow the mainstream, like few years ago it was myspace, now it's all about Facebook and Twitter!

During the party:
* prepare the venue.
* you follow the plan you made way earlier with people working at the entrance, backstage, in the crowd! Make sure everything go well, that there are no problems of any kind. And if you can, you can just go party and enjoy yourself :)
* clean up a bit the venue.

After the party:
* sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep and sleep!!! Haha well, actually usually after the party we are exhausted but soooo high on the energy we received that we are online, checking out reviews, videos and pictures!
* communication plan again and debriefing: you have to gather pics, videos, reviews to communicate them but also to see what you can improve for next time!

How does it work with asking the DJ's if they want to play at your event?

You have 3 options there:
1. the DJ asks you to play himself and does all the talk.
2. you want to book a DJ, whom has an agent so you have to go through the agent to make the deal
3. you want to book a DJ, whom hasn't any agent... so the deal is done through the DJ directly.
We can get in touch with DJs through the Internet but also during random parties we go to!

I've seen that more and more events are added lately, from Luminosity Before The Energy and Luminosity Beach Festival, now last December the Christmas Edition was added and soon the Trance Gathering (Before 500). How do you see Luminosity in the future? What are the goals? Will you be organizing even more events?

It's true that for over a year now, Luminosity Events has been able to offer a different party almost every 3 months including the Luminosity stage at Summerlake Festival in September 2010. The main goal is to keep up with Trance focused line up, with known names and upcoming talents. We want to promote producers as well. More events? Of course! :)

What is your best Luminosity event so far?

Hahaa tough one ... I have several actually, for many different reasons ... My very first Lumi was special for some reasons but also because of the music and the atmosphere.. really had a blast at that Before The Energy!
My first Lumi Beach in 2009 was also freaking awesome, one of my best memories ever: friends, sun, amazing banging sets... this feeling of happiness and freedom is really something you have to experience once I believe!! haha god, it didn't even bothered me to lose 20€ in the sand :p
And last year Lumi Beach was also my first time as stage manager, that Lumi was 4 days of stress, exhausting days but you know what? Back at the hotel on Sunday night at 2am, I had tears of happiness after such an amazing weekend of work, pleasure, laugh, meetings, good music...
Haaa... what about the dear Let the light shine in that Cor played at LBF 2009, epic moment .. He spotted me and my friends getting high on this and even played it again at the Lumi 2 years anniversary in December! So sweet ... And we even got (when I say we, I mean me as a visitor and my friends) Darren Tate to play it at BTE 2010... Ha, see, I can't pick one!!! My best Luminosity Events is the Lumi Events itself :p

Who is your favorite visitor of the Luminosity events? ;)

Oyyy, another tricky one... I'd say I love a certain Dutchy guy married to a Frenchy ;) Although I've met so many great people at Lumi's parties, Dutch people of course but also from all over the world... We have really nice and crazy people, like that English dude at LBF, wearing the Pink Panther suits! Or the Italian guys, always there with a Kangaroo with them ;) ;) And as cheesy as it may sound...  simply the happy and dreaming people we see at every parties...

Thank you for the interview and good luck with the upcoming events!

Thank you and people, keep on reading Trance Podium, amazing site!
