Ahead of Ferry Corsten’s eagerly awaited return to our famous turntables Passion resident Genix decided to ask a few questions and catch up with the Dutch superstar…..

First of all it’s a great pleasure to welcome you back to Passion!....

Q:: Hello Ferry... ! How are you? Has it been another hectic year since you were last with us?

A:: Yes, I became a father, finished my latest artist album Twice In A Blue Moon which has just recently been released in the UK (Maelstrom Records), produced the 2nd edition of Full on Ferry in the Ahoy’ in Rotterdam and I have been very busy in the studio again and touring around the world. That’s it in a nutshell

Q:: I remember you telling me in the car on the way to your last passion gig that you were working on a new album... Well now it’s finished and available to buy... can you tell your fans a little about it? Any particular inspirations?

A:: Yes, I’m finally finished! I think this artist album in a nutshell is a blend of tracks that I would play in a long DJ set. I produced this album from a melodic point of view rather than from an electro point of view like I did with my previous album “ L.E.F ”, where I was very much inspired by the electro sound. Nowadays trance has progressed in such a cool way that this was my main source of inspiration for “ Twice In A Blue Moon ”.

Q:: The Ferry Corsten sound in my opinion has always been fresh and a benchmark for the trance scene.... it’s had its changes but has always moved with the times.. How do you keep it so new and innovative?

A:: I don’t know, it’s not something I do on purpose. When I been working with a particular sound for a while I get bored of it and I try something else. Sometimes I like to do something 180 degrees different to what I normally do and sometimes it feels very unnatural, but that is exactly what brings out the coolest little twists in my productions.

Q:: I noticed that some of your more recent productions are alot more trancier than your previous tracks from your L.E.F album.... Do you feel that this sound is coming back more?

A:: Yes, I definitely think so. I really believe that 2009 will be a massive year for trance again, I honestly think that trance at the moment is the most adventurous genre out there. Within the trance genre you can play and produce anything from minimal to full on hands in the air. Therefore I am playing and producing a lot of trance again since it gives me the room to play whatever I like in my sets.

Q:: You have probably been asked this before... probably more than once... but does Passion hold a special place in your DJ career? Maybe where it began for you in the UK.. especially with that famous video.

A:: I have always seen Passion as one of the important launch pads of my DJ career in the UK and worldwide. Ever since the big days of “COME ON PASSION” the vibe is still the same and I am really looking forward to playing there again.

Q:: Can you tell us a few things that the clubbers may not know about you? Be brave! Haha!

A:: I am an expert in changing diapers since 6 months – it’s tough a job but someone’s gotta do it.

Q:: In your opinion… what makes a great trance track?

A:: For me trance is all about strong and catchy melodies and a great drive. It’s not really always about the endless breakdowns, it works a lot better to keep the energy going by emphasis on the melody.

Q:: Do you have any other hobbies as well as your DJing/Production? Or does that take up most of your time?

A:: My music takes up most of my time, and that’s why I am really pissed off right now cause I am luxury position – my other hobby is snowboarding but I simply don’t have the time to go this year...gutted. Hear me complain..haha!

Q:: And last of all.... what can all of your ‘Ferry Fans’ expect from you on Passions 14th Birthday?

A:: Since its Passion’s birthday and since I just released my new album I have a few treats for all of you, like brand new tracks, remixes and a couple of Passion classics ;)

I speak for all of the Passion clubbers when I say that we are really looking forward to having you perform for us again... it’s been nearly a year since you were last here and we are looking forward to March 14th.. See you then ferry!!! Genix
