Rik Tights started DJ'ing when he was 19 after his grandfather bought him his first pair of belt drive decks. He'd always wanted a pair and now he had them, He had no idea how to use them. Pretty much for the next two years he and the turntables were inseparable. He taught himself how to beat match, count bars, beat drop etc.. (Internet wasn't as widely used then so he couldn't just Google it). Whenever I got paid I bought records, mainly from HTFR (as they were the biggest).. Then later on places like Juno and 8 Ball records (in the USA).
ONE BIG DECISION?
By the time he was 22 he was pretty confident on the decks (confident to play in front of a live crowd, which takes balls first few times). The only issue was he loved both Trance and Funky House the two main dance styles at the time. It was costing him a fortune to keep up to date with all the most recent releases so he knew he had to make a decision one way or the other…. After loads of thought he chose Trance.. And he's never regretted it…
