Bit of a wierd thread, but I was thinking to myself the other day, whatever happened to those big rock anthems from the 80's? You know the ones with massively reverbed vocals, synths etc. creating a "stadium" atmosphere as I liked to think. I know they probably wouldn't be massively popular these days, but I do think that the sound was pretty cool. What do you think?

Like the Van Halen stuff? Or AC/DC from the 1970s? I mean I think it did run its course for a time. It was like the same way with uplifting trance from 1999-2004. A lot of guys then were really exploiting the hot new sound, and then it started to sound stale. Anthem rock seemed to fall under at the end of the 1990s, when you had guys like Rage Against The Machine, etc. Or at least it seems that way.

I'm not really a fan of the stuff, I was just curious, as I do think the songs are a lot more powerful than the songs you hear these days. I suppose that sort of stuff would be considered rubbish pop or something now.

I kinda like these 80s Rock anthems

like Journey and stuff, its fun to listen to at times

some Metallica and GnR is OK too

but I rarely listen to it, maybe thats why I still enjoy it when I do

WOW 70s guess I was off a bit for a couple of those LOL
Rage was different tho, I would call that a new era, 90s hard rock grunge or something like that
