Ferry Corsten feat. Betsie Larkin "Made Of Love"
Before the end of 2008 Dutch DJ and producer Ferry Corsten released his album "Twice In A Blue Moon". The first single from the album was the heavy club banger called "Radio Crash" which topped the charts and was played by all the top jocks such as Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz and of course Ferry himself. Ferry went back to his roots on this album, as he nicely put it, and moved away from the experimenting and electro inspired sound that was represented on L.E.F.. It resulted in 12 tracks with trance, a hint of tech and downtempo. A big favourite among the fans is without a doubt track #5 also known as "Made Of Love" which is a vocal track Ferry Corsten did with American singer/songwriter Betsie Larkin. This is bound to one, if not the biggest track off the album! I does not only come with 1 or 2, but 4 remixes from some of the hottest producers in trance and progressive. Well known for their succes on UK's Anjunabeats, Finnish superstars Super8 & Tab has agreed to do a remix for this single and it has already gained some impressive support on radio shows like Trance Around The World with Above & Beyond. Probably the most productive producer pair in 2008, Duderstadt from Germany, steps in with a 'progressive' remix. Bobina has just released an album of his own and is most likely one of Russia's biggest trance exports - he too did a remix. Last but certainly not least, M.I.K.E. from Belgium did a remix under his Push guise.

1. Made Of Love (Original Mix) 9:02
2. Made Of Love (Super8 & Tab Remix) 8:44
3. Made Of Love (Duderstadt 'Progressive' Remix) 7:01
4. Made Of Love (Bobina Megadrive Vox) 8:52
5. Made Of Love (Push Remix) 7:34

The review
The Original Mix starts out in a traditional way with kicks and percussion. Throughout the intro part Ferry introduces some obscure and atmospheric sounds. It creates some excitement and functions as a trigger to kick the track off properly. A synth sets in with and then a bassline with a well-known Ferry Corsten sound to it makes its entrance. Different melodies starts to flow elegantly and the kicks slowly fades and suddenly Betsie's voice hits you. Her vocals are smooth as silk, and I already wonder why we've only heard her in 1 other recent trance track. The grand breakdown is absolutely well done. Fantastic synth work and perfect and a subtle use of piano. After the break the track peaks with a simple but yet super effective and captivating lead.

Track #2 on this single is the Super8 & Tab Remix. They have had a wide string of hits on Anjunabeats. Lately they have done remixes on other labels as well and namely a remix of Paul van Dyk's "New York City". Their remix of Made Of Love is a punchy slice of trance with an electro vibe. It has the classic Super8 & Tab sound to it yet it doesn't resemble any of their earlier works completely. This is perfect for the big rooms. There are parts of the build-up that I could have done without and some stabs that aren't fit to my liking. Even though I ain't a big fan of vocals I think they could have made greater use of them. I am certain that the main lead should please all the Super8 & Tab fans out there.

The German boys behind Fragma and Inpetto worked out a Duderstadt 'Progressive' Remix. In the first few bars they build up the tune with kicks and minimal sounding percussion and a synth sound that gradually becomes wider and brighter. The theme reminds of their of their recent remixes for John Askew and Jon O'Bir only slightly deeper. They make good use of Betsie's vocals and the tune is an overall great set-builder.

Russian producer Dmitry Almazov brings us the Bobina Megadrive Vox. He starts out with some interesting use of percussion and it has a great booming effect. Good way to set things off and keep the listener interested. The tune has an early break which feels a bit long but after that he starts to build things up with vocals bits and a driving bassline. I think the vocals bits are used as a teaser, and later you get the vocals in full. The main breakdown consists of piano lines and a break beat sounding loop, and of course the vocals. The track then takes off mainly carried by the bassline and some synth effects. Another breakdown occurs and a guitar is now present along with the piano heard in the main break. Before the outro the track explodes with some techy sounds.

One of the biggest trance legends gets to round off the package with a Push Remix. It is inspired a lot by the original mix and I'm not even halfway through the song before I realize how perfect it compliments the original version. The bassline is similar to Ferry's but some small adjustments has been made as far as I can tell. The vocals enter quite early in the track and he uses them quite heavily. What I really love about this remix is that he used Ferry's amazing lead and placed his own fat signature sound on top of it and it sounds truly powerful combined.

The verdict[
A massive follow-up to Radio Crash! This should turn out to be one of the bigger vocal trancers in 2009 I am sure. Most of the remixers has just added their signature but kudos to Bobina for experimenting a bit even though the hard work ended up a bit messy and with too many and too long breakdowns. The Original Mix is spot on and pushes all the right buttons. The Push Remix steals the trophy for best remix in my opinion and mainly because of the "less is more" approach. M.I.K.E. reworked all the qualities in the original mix and added his own little touch and the result is massive. 8/10 for this release which should please all the Ferry fans out there.
