Trancepedia - Comments, bugs, questions or suggestions -

Hey guys!

I think it's a good idea to create a topic which is especially devoted to Trancepedia. The idea is to post any comments, bugs, questions or suggestions which are related to Trancepedia in this thread. I believe it's better to centralize this kind of information.

Let's start with my first few bugs and suggestions I've found while browsing Trancepedia:

1) I can't seem to edit any images in the tracks section. I didn't try the others! I receive the following error message:
Quote

We're sorry, but something went wrong.

We've been notified about this issue and we'll take a look at it shortly.

I experience this problem for over a month now. I tried it with Firefox and IE9.

2) There isn't an option to edit an image for the 'releases'! Maybe this feature can be added?

3) Previous point brings to the next discussion: it happens that one track is released multiple times: I mean as part of a compilation, as part of an album or as part of remix package. Although there isn't any problem with textual information, I wonder what the image of the track should be? Personally, I would prefer the remix package. A solution for this problem could be like this:

1) add an option to specify the type of the release: remix package, compilation or album?
2) Show the image according to the following priority: remix package > album > compilation
3) adding a track without specifying the release (as is the case during the live shows) shouln't have an image attached

That's it for now! Any comments are welcome :)

Hey Kevin, nice idea with the separate topic. I'd even go as far as creating a topic for each bug/feature request.

Now let me address the things you said.

Will look into it, thanks.

Yes, it will be.

At the moment, the image is taken from the first release the track appears on. If it's an album - it's taken from the album, if it's a single - it's taken from the single.

I agree, the image from the single would be the most appropriate one. Will work on that.

Keep them coming!

Thanks for the respons :)

I have another question: when adding releases, I noted that the form under "tracks" is duplicated. What exactly is the purpose of that? Has it something to do with A and B side? Just guessing :p

That means you can add multiple tracklists to a release. If you're adding a double CD release, one tracklist would be for CD 1, and another one for CD 2.

Whoops, I should have thought about that

I noticed that some of the tracks in Trancepedia have a preview included. I'm wondering who is adding those previews? How can we contribute the tracks with a preview? Great feature though! That really deserves an announcement here on the forums :D

The previews (and download links along with them) are fetched automatically from the junodownload database. Unfortunately we can't allow members to upload own previews due to copyright problems. The previews that are added currently are 2 min long and of low quality.

Great!

I'm just wondering if there's anything that we should pay attention too in order to link our manually added tracks automatically to JunoDownload? Is the fetching process completely automatic and or are there still some manual operations required by the admins?

It is completely automatic. A script is executed every day at 10 pm which retrieves the releases from the day before. I'll also create another one to start going backwards in time, for the past releases. This will eventually populate our database with every trance release on juno's web site.

We do manually review everything that is added to the trancepedia, however. Mostly we watch out for duplicates or naming inconsistencies.
